In this long video, I take "Prelude To a Kiss" into the woodshed. (Ie; a lot of reharmonization exploration) I didn't spend a lot of time comparing the original changes to my crazy new ones. Thank you Mark Eisenman, and thank you Bill Evans, I think Bill would love this theme statement and very creative solo. Very Much. As you know, this Bill Evans piece was not commercially recorded until about 1962- but Bill wrote it for a composition assignment in 1949 ( !), and Bill's son posthumously released tapes of his father playing it that year, 1949. I am enjoying hearing this, so much.

@@MarkEisenman Mark, I should have said, Bill's home recording of it from 1949 was to be on the unreleased Vol 2 of a series form Bill's son, Evan Evans. The eponymous posthumous CD which WAS released did not include the composition "Ver Early" unfortunately! If Evan Evans read this, I sure would like to hear and obtain Vol 2 of his home tapes of his father Bill. Or at least a link !

It's a series of iim7-V7 starting on Abmin7-Db7 (2 beats each) going down chromatically all the way until I get to F and then I kind of try to find my way out (panic!!!) for that last bar of the bridge by playing 4 chords that get me to D minor for the last A section. Bill Evans made some jokes that vocalists were just another horn to him, etc. but it seems obvious that he knew the mood of the lyric of the songs he immortalized- the lyrical meaning and maybe all the words, too, I think. This "Never Let Me Go" makes me think of the mood Bill was in when he recorded this piece ALONE 1967. And I think you convey the meaning of this song and its lyric in a Bill-like way. Thank you for the way you play this, Mark E.
